JeeMin Kim's work, stemming from a haunting sense of poignant nostalgia for lost civilisations, evokes desires for ancient emotions that haven't been directly experienced. Constantly tracing this ambiguous form and origin, KIM explores intersections of history, mythology, archeology, and more derived from various nations. Through the <Prototype Temple> series, which combines multinational classics, KIM reimagines 19th-century archaeology from a new perspective, creating theatrical installation works that reproduce these intersections.
JeeMin Kim holds a BA from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design (2016), and an MA in Critical Practice from the Royal College of Art, London (2019). She recently finished her PhD in Painting from Hong Ik University (2021), and has since had her series of solo exhibitions at Sahng-up Gallery, Seoul, <Prototype Temple: At Night> (2021), <Prototype Temple: 6ft Under_Valley> (2022), <Prototype Temple: In Defiance of Fond Adversaries> (2023), <Prototype Temple: The Murder Case> (2024).
